Wisteria frutescens, commonly known as American wisteria, is a species of flowering plant native to the southeastern United States. Unlike the more well-known Asian wisteria species, American wisteria is less aggressive and more manageable in terms of growth. It's a deciduous woody vine that produces beautiful clusters of fragrant, lilac-purple flowers in the spring. Its foliage consists of pinnate, green leaves that turn yellow in the fall. American wisteria is often cultivated as an ornamental plant for arbors, pergolas, and trellises due to its attractive flowers and relatively restrained growth habit compared to its Asian counterparts.
