Gunnera manicata, commonly known as giant rhubarb or Brazilian giant-rhubarb, is a large herbaceous perennial plant native to the Serra do Mar mountains in southeastern Brazil. It is a member of the Gunneraceae family and is characterized by its massive size and dramatic appearance.

Gunnera manicata typically grows in moist, subtropical climates and is often cultivated as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks worldwide. It has enormous, deeply lobed leaves that can reach up to 2.5 meters (8 feet) in diameter, making it one of the largest herbaceous plants in the world. The leaves are supported by thick, prickly stems that emerge from a large, fleshy rhizome.

In addition to its impressive size, Gunnera manicata produces long, branching flower spikes adorned with small, reddish-brown flowers. After flowering, it produces clusters of small, reddish-brown fruits.

Gunnera manicata is prized for its striking appearance in landscaping. It requires ample space and moist, fertile soil to thrive, making it well-suited for gardens with suitable growing conditions.
